Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Centre (IEDC)

The Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Centre (IEDC) is being promoted in educational institutions to develop institutional mechanism to create entrepreneurial culture inS&T academic institutions and to foster techno-entrepreneurship for generation of wealth and employment by S&T persons. The IEDCs are established in academic institutions (science colleges, engineering colleges, universities, management institutes) having requisite expertise and infrastructure.

The mission of the IEDCs is to “develop institutional mechanism to create entrepreneurial culture in academic institutions to foster growth of innovation and entrepreneurship amongst the faculty and students”.

What is Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Centre ?

The Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Centre (IEDC) is being promoted in educational institutions to develop institutionalmechanism to create entrepreneurial culture inS&T academic institutions and to foster techno-entrepreneurshipfor generation of wealth andemployment by S&T persons. As a part of Kerala startupmission the IEDC was established inLBS College of Engineering in 2016 and was inaugurated by Joesam John Zachariah, fromwww.exinosis.com.

Many startup missions were registered till date through IEDC LBS.The mission of the IEDC is to develop institutional mechanism to create entrepreneurial culture in academic institutions tofoster growth of innovation and entrepreneurship amongstthe faculty and students.

Objectives of the IEDC

  • To act as an institutional mechanism for providing various services including information on allaspects of enterprise building to budding S&T entrepreneurs.
  • To create Entrepreneurial culture in the Parent Institution and other institutions in the region and to promote the objectives of NSTEDB, including programmes related to women and weaker sections of the society.
  • To inculcate a culture of innovation driven entrepreneurship through student projects.
  • To respond effectively to the emerging challenges and opportunities both at national and international level relating to SMEs and micro enterprises.

Functions of IEDC:

  • To organise Entrepreneurship Awareness Camps, Entrepreneurship Development Programmes, Faculty Development Programmes and Skill Development Programmes in thecollege/institution for the benefit of S&T persons.
  • To organize Business Plan Competitions every year.
  • To guide and assist prospective entrepreneurs onvarious aspects such as preparing projectreports, obtaining project approvals, loans and facilitiesfrom agencies of support system,information on technologies, etc.
  • To arrange interaction with entrepreneurs and createa mentorship scheme for studententrepreneurs.
  • To act as a Regional Information Centre on businessopportunities, processes, technologies,market, etc. by creating and maintaining relevantdata bases.
  • IEDC would also sensitise the management of theinstitutions regarding the importance ofentrepreneurship and integrate their activities withthe Host Institutions.

The IEDC LBS have been conducting various programssuch as idea Pitching, workshops,Hackathon etc.. to improve skills of students. Moreoverit also provides interraction withentrepreneurs so that students can share their queriesand ideas regarding startup.

Currently IEDC consists of 11 executive committee members selected from various departments in our college , were each member is assigned with particular tasks. IEDC also consists of astaff committee which includes faculties from various departments
